(Excerpt) During the forming of this list I was blown away by the sheer number of patriotic films that have been made in the US. In going through the pile of possibilities, I have intentionally chosen not to just represent saccharine movies which show only the good side of life – the films I have picked include war films, films about corruption, and films involving racism. There is, however, one underlying current in all of them – they all involve the triumph of freedom – the very heart of American patriotism.

This list was published a year ago, but nothing has changed, still a terrific list. How many have you seen?

I've seen all but one. And there's not one I don't like! Laugh or cry. I think I've seen Yankee Doodle Dandy 20 times and I cry every time. Hell, I cry over nearly all of them.

This list omits what should be the traditional fourth of July movie in much the same way A Wonderful Life has become the traditional Christmas flicker. The missing move? Mel Gibson's The Patriot.

That's one I haven't seen! As far as being a patriot, I think Braveheart is a pretty great film.

I have seen them all. What about "The 4th of July", the movie? Braveheart was good, long but good.

I've read the book that 'The 4th of July" was based on. I was surprised it wasn't on the list, but the list would be a mile long if we put our choices on it. I am soooo not a Tom Cruise fan that I probably won't see it.

Patton is the only one on the list that I haven't seen.

I am not real big on Cruise but the film had merits. George C. Scott played the part excellent.
